Best Basic SEO Tips to Try in 2021

The world of SEO is as deep as it is wide. Google lives and breathes making sure that SERPs provide the best information to users based on an ever-changing algorithm. While we could talk all day about SEO (and some people do), there’s only so much time that small teams and solopreneurs can devote to optimizing their content. So, without further ado, here are the best basic SEO tips to try in 2021 to get your content ranking and in front of potential customers.

First off, before we dive any deeper, it’s important to understand how important a role SEO will play for your sales. Optimizing your site will improve your rankings, and as a result, influence your conversion rate. That brings us to our first tip.

Tip #1: Take SEO into account before you design your website.

The infrastructure of your website has just as much to do with your ranking as does the content. Before you build your website, consult with SEO experts or do some research on what navigation tools and design are best for SEO. UX is oftentimes an overlooked factor when it comes to SEO, but it should be considered from the first step.

Tip #2: Use your content to build expertise, authority, and trust.

Show off you knowledge in your content and build trust through valuable information. No matter if you are an individual or a company, use your blog to demonstrate your knowledge in your field. This will inevitably lead to a lot of up front key word inclusion.

Tip #3: Remove anything that slows down your site.

Even a one second delay in load time can end up yielding a 7% loss in conversions. Here’s a bit of information from Convertri, a comprehensive website and funnel builder:

“As early as 2018, Google – a company who know a thing or two about what people like on the internet – made page speed part of its ranking algorithm. In 2019, they conducted more tests, which showed that these days, 53% of mobile users will abandon a page if they’re forced to wait longer than 3 seconds – an even bigger traffic loss.

This was corroborated by a recent Diginow study, that found 47% of mobile users will abandon a page if they’re forced to wait more than 2 seconds.”

Tip #4: Link to other websites with relevant content.

Linking out sends trackable traffic and it adds credibility to your website. Your best bet is it to link out to relevant information that will be valuable to visitors. Oftentimes if you contact similarly sized companies, you can coordinate on content and link swaps to increase traffic and improve SEO.

However, keep in mind that link building is about quality, not quantity. You will build more trust in your niche if you have a few authoritative links rather than a dozen poor quality links.

Tip #5: Write for humans first, search engines second.

Write your content so that it will be understood by your readers. This will make sure that you’re writing to add value and insight rather than just to appease a search engine. Then, afterwards, go back and edit with SEO in mind.

Tip #6: Have web analytics in place at the start.

Before you even get started, make sure you know how to use Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, and Crazy Egg to see visitor behavior. Having these tools in place from the get-go will help you understand what’s working and what isn’t.

Tip #6: Don’t be afraid to use tools to help you with SEO.
