What are ClickBank HopAds?

ClickBank HopAds are one of the easiest ways for vendors to quickly get widespread exposure for their products, hopefully leading to an increase in sales.

HopAds are consumer-oriented text ads that affiliates display on their websites. Typically, affiliates display ads for products that are related to the topic of their website or page, with the goal of sending motivated visitors to a ClickBank vendor’s Pitch Page to purchase the product. If the visitor does buy after clicking on the HopAd, the affiliate gets the full affiliate commission for the sale, just like with a normal HopLink.

Benefits for Vendors

We recommend that every ClickBank vendor create HopAds for their product(s), because it requires very little extra effort, costs nothing except for your normal commission rate(s), and can potentially gain you a great deal of exposure and potential sales for your product. In addition, since you control the text of your HopAd, you control the message that customers see before visiting your Pitch Page.

Another important benefit to HopAds is that unlike your Marketplace listing, where affiliates have to find and consciously choose to promote your site, your HopAd will automatically display on many different affiliates’ websites based on keywords they choose to populate the ad. This means that even if your product doesn’t rank near the top of its Marketplace category, it still has a great deal of potential to be promoted on affiliates’ websites. If you’re just starting out or have had trouble increasing your product’s popularity and GRAVITY™ performance statistic, participating in the HopAds platform can be a good way to try to drive additional sales and increase your rankings in the Marketplace.

Creating a HopAd

After your product is approved, you’ll see a new menu item under Account Settings called My Ads, which allows you to create HopAds.

Click the My Ads link, and on this page, click Create New Ad. You can create up to 5 total ads within your account. All of your HopAds will link to your HopLink Target URL.

It’s important to remember that these ads should be targeted to potential customers, not affiliates. Don’t mention things like commission rate, conversion rate, or anything that’s intended for affiliates. Instead, focus on benefits of your product that would appeal to the end customer.

Creating an ad is as simple as filling out the following fields:

  • Name: You can enter whatever you’d like; this name is just used internally for tracking statistics about your ad’s performance.
  • Headline: This will be a clickable link to your HopLink Target URL, and should be used to describe or introduce your product. In the Tabbed Ad Box version of HopAds, this is the only part of your ad that will display. Limited to 28 characters.
  • Descriptive text: This is the main body of text for your product description. Your headline and descriptive text must meet ClickBank’s quality guidelines for advertisements. Limited to 72 characters.
  • Keywords: These are what will match your ad with affiliates’ ad boxes. For example, let’s say your product is about dog training. You can enter “dog training” as a keyword, and if an affiliate has a related website and enters “dog training” as a keyword when creating an ad box, your ad will be included in the results. You can enter up to 8 keywords or keyphrases, one keyword or key phrase per line. Each line can have up to 25 characters. Keywords must also meet quality guidelines.

At any time, you can click Generate/Refresh Preview to see an example of how your ad will appear. Once you’ve entered all of this information and are satisfied with the preview, click Save Changes. This will submit your ad for approval with ClickBank’s Ad Approval team. The approval process typically takes about 3 business days, and you will be notified when your ad is approved or disapproved.

Managing Your Ads

Once you’ve created an ad, it will appear on the My Ads page.

From the Actions box, you can choose to Run/Pause your ad (), Edit the ad (), or Delete the ad (). You can only delete an ad that is not running, to prevent accidental deletion, so you’ll need to first pause the ad, then delete it. Status will show you whether your ad is currently awaiting approval, paused, or running.

You can only have up to 5 ads at a time, so if you’ve reached the maximum and want to add a new one, you’ll need to edit or delete an existing ad.

Important: Please be aware that editing an approved ad will cause it to be resubmitted for approval. You cannot edit an existing ad without having it approved again.

Quality Guidelines

ClickBank is committed to ensuring that the advertisements affiliates and consumers see are accurate descriptions of the products and sites they promote. Each ad goes through an approval process after submission to check that all headlines, descriptions and keywords are accurate and relevant to that product. Therefore, we ask that when creating your ad, you be as accurate and honest as possible about the description and features of your product or site, and only list relevant keywords and phrases.

Any ad that is determined to be inaccurate or misleading to affiliates or customers will be sent back to the vendor to be corrected, and will have to go through the approval process again. It is therefore in your best interest to be as accurate as possible the first time you create your ad.

In addition to misleading ads, we also screen ads for things like excessive punctuation, such as multiple exclamation points or question marks. We may correct spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors at our discretion.
