If you own a website, forum, or blog, the ClickBank HopAd Builder™ is one of the quickest and easiest ways to make money from your site’s traffic.

What is the HopAd Builder?

You’ve probably seen many websites that include text ads somewhere on each page, advertising products related to the topic of the website. These types of ads have been around for years and can make a little bit of money for sites that get a lot of traffic, but the site owner typically only makes a few pennies for each time someone clicks on one of their ads.

ClickBank’s HopAd Builder changes all that by making these ads very lucrative. This is because when a visitor to your site clicks on a HopAd and buys the ClickBank product it promotes, you get the full affiliate referral credit for the sale— up to 75%, depending on the product! This can quickly add up to major profits. Best of all, HopAds can easily be tailored to fit the look and content of your site.

How it Works

To use the HopAd Builder, first you’ll need a ClickBank account. Once you’re logged in to your account, go to Account Settings->HopAd Builder.

From here, you can create one of two types of advertisements: a simple Text Ad box, or a Tabbed Ad Box.

Text ad boxes come in a variety of popular layouts, or you can completely customize the size of the box, as well as the font, colors, and more. This is a great option if your website focuses on a specific topic, so you can show highly relevant ads to your site visitors. The text ad box also allows for more detailed product descriptions than the tabbed ad box.

The tabbed ad box allows you to promote multiple product types from the same ad space, with each on its own tab. This is a good option if your website covers a range of different topics, or if you prefer to show a broader range of ClickBank products.

Once you decide which type of ad box to create for your site, just click Get Started and follow the instructions, adding your ClickBank nickname, keywords related to your site’s content so we can match relevant products to your site, an optional Tracking ID, and then set the visual options to make the ad box match your site.

Once you’re happy with the ad box, we’ll give you the HTML code you need to copy and paste into to your website. There are two types of code we can generate for you. If you’re not an expert at CSS styling, we recommend using the default IFRAME option. As soon as you insert the code wherever you’d like the ads to appear on your site, your ads will begin showing immediately. You can start earning commissions right away!

To test your HopAds and make sure you’ll receive the affiliate commissions for sales, take the following steps:

  1. Implement the ad source code on your website.
  2. Click one of the ads.
  3. Click the Buy Now button on the vendor’s website.
  4. Once you have landed on the ClickBank Order Form, look at the bottom of the page for the referring affiliate information. It should match your ClickBank nickname, as shown below.

That’s really all there is to it— once you get the hang of the ad box creation process, you can quickly and easily create as many ad boxes for your sites as you’d like.

Tailoring Ads to Your Site

To ensure that the HopAds you display on your site convert as well as possible, resulting in more commissions for you, it’s important that they match the content of your site as closely as possible. For example, if your site is about diet and weight loss, you probably don’t want to display ads about making money online. They won’t be interesting to your readers, so they won’t get clicked on, meaning less sales for you.

When creating your ad box using the HopAd Builder, you can specify keywords that will match ClickBank products to the content of your site. While you can just type in whatever keywords you like, there are some ways you can enter your keywords that can help make results even more relevant and useful.

  • If you enter your keywords in quotes, such as “golf swing,” we will only return ads that use the phrase exactly as entered.
  • If you enter your keywords with AND in between, such as golf AND swing, we will only return ads that use both terms.
  • If you enter your keywords with OR in between, such as golf OR swing, we will return ads that have either term.
  • If you enter your keywords with NOT between, such as golf NOT swing, we will exclude any ads that include the second term.
  • If you enter + before a keyword, such as golf +swing, we will only return ads that include the + keyword.
  • If you enter – before a keyword, such as golf -swing, we will exclude any ads that include the -keyword.
  • If you use parentheses with your keywords, you can do more complicated searches. For example, if you type (golf OR swing) AND help, you will get results that include either golf or swing combined with the word help, such as golf help or swing help.

In addition to those searches, you can also include “wildcards” that can help broaden your results:

  • Using the character ? will return ads that use keywords where the ? is replaced with a single letter. For example, if you type gol?, you would get results that include golf or gold.
  • Using the character * will return ads that use keywords where the * is replaced with multiple characters. For example, if you type gol*, you would get results that include golf, golfing, golfer, gold, golden, etc. This can be very useful for returning ads with related keywords, like the golf/golfer/golfing example.
  • Using the character ~ after a keyword will return ads that include keywords that are spelled similarly to the keyword. For example, if you type roam~, it would return ads with keywords such as roams, foam, etc.

By using these special search techniques, you can make sure your ads are as targeted and relevant to your audience as possible.

Tracking Your HopAds

If you use multiple HopAd boxes on your site, it can be very useful to know which ones are leading to sales and which aren’t performing well. You can get this information by using ClickBank’s Tracking ID. This is an alphanumeric code you can attach to your ads that will show you what specific ads lead to a sale.

It’s very easy to add Tracking IDs to your HopAd boxes. All you need to do is enter your desired Tracking ID during the first step when creating either type of ad box. These codes can be up to 24 digits, and can be anything you want, using numbers and letters. For example, if you create one text ad box for your index page, you could use the Tracking ID “textindex” or something similar. If you then had a tabbed ad box on a news page, you could use the Tracking ID “tabnews.” When you view your ClickBank sales reporting, you’ll be able to see these Tracking IDs listed with your sales, so you can see whether your index page or news page is driving more sales. The same applies if you’re running HopAds on multiple websites, or even multiple HopAd boxes on the same page.

For more information on Tracking IDs and how to use them, see Tracking Your Promotions.

FAQ

Q: Do you review ads for content and quality?

A: Yes, our Business Services team has reviewed each ad in our system to ensure it meets our guidelines. For more information on our guidelines, click here.

Q: What does Display Max # of Ads do?

A: The Display Max # of Ads feature automatically populates empty ad spots with ads for best-selling ClickBank products.

Depending on the keywords you enter to match ads to your site’s content, there may not be enough ads in the system to display the maximum number of ads for the size and layout you’ve chosen. Selecting True for Display Max # of Ads will fill any empty spaces with ads for other best-selling ClickBank products, though these may not be relevant to your site. If you’d prefer to try to keep your ads relevant and want more ads, try entering additional keywords or less specific keywords to return more results.

Q: Can I manually edit the ad code to make additional changes?

A: Yes. If you have advanced knowledge of HTML, see our Advanced User Guide for a list of all of the parameters you can edit directly in the code. Manually editing the code is not recommended for beginners, as making incorrect changes to the code could result in ads not displaying correctly.
