Beau, I totally agree with you, 150%! In my experience as a client relations and communications rep in the workforce, I found that building relationships or trust with the people I interacted with, whether in person, by phone or via email, forged better and faster positive responses to whatever services I or the companies I represented had to offer. In some cases, building that trust was based simply on acknowledging the other person's concerns and responding accordingly or showing that I cared about what the other person/people cared about at any given point and time. It was like MrRoadRage said - "If you want to have a friend, be a friend first". Of course, building trust or positive relationships can take time and patience, especially in the online marketing world I would think.

I'm a "newbie affiliate" too. Your article has reminded me of this important principle and has helped to curb my approach and my expectations in proceeding as an affiliate marketer.

Great article Beau! I have to share a brief experience I had last year that proves your point. I joined a Real Estate Blogging Network about 20 months ago, and having spent a great amount of time on discussion boards, I just jumped in and started spending time posting to lots of other blogs. It wasn't too long before I started getting lots of replies on my blog. I started getting a lot of "newbies" to the network ask me how I was getting so many replies since I was obviously new. I told them the same thing you have written here...it's all about relationships. Spend time on their blogs, and after awhile, if they like what you have been contributing, they will start to read your blog too. In other words, if you want to have a friend, be a friend first!

Having been away from blogging since early spring, I am just now returning to it. I look forward to building new relationships, and moving in new directions. Thanks again for this well written article, you have refreshed me and reminded how important it is to always build the relationship first!

Good stuff...Creating any good relationship is crucial, whether it be socially or in business. For example...when you speak to people you do not know, their apt to listen or avoid, and respond if need be. But, if you are speaking to your friends that know you and are talking about a topic of interest to everyone, you will get a variety of responses. Good or bad.
Which in my opinion is what its all about.

Affiliate marketing is one way to achieve the highest possible revenue from your website. I agree that relationship is important. I firmly believe that we build our wealth through building relationship with other people.

I am as a newbie, have been a lot of reading books, article etc. Then try to be as an affiliate marketer. I 've got the product from my friends, from Clickbank easy. No problem. But the problem is how to get buyers. Based upon your article, I'll change my mind not being focusing to get product only but to build the relationship first.

Well, in my opinion, to get the significance result, as an online Marketer should be supported by offline activity. So the online and offline actions should conducted both in properly proportion.

Beau,
Your points about building relationships apply to both affiliate marketing and social media. It is so important to create relationships with your audience.
Thank you for your points. I will tweet to my followers.
