DIY with ClickBank

Posted by: Greg Lems, VP of Information Technology

I’m in the midst of a long-overdue remodel of the second floor of my home. Although I hired someone to do most of the specialized work, I decided to tackle several projects myself to save money in these trying times.

One task that I learned would save a fair amount of money if I did it myself was carpet removal. However, while the main part of the work was very fast and easy, I quickly discovered that removing the hundreds of staples left behind was a much bigger chore than I had imagined! At first I thought I was in for hours of extra work as I started removing each staple by hand.

Fortunately for me, the contractor I had hired for other work saw what I was doing and stopped me before I wasted too much time. It turns out there’s a simple tool that carpet installers use to remove staples quickly and easily. After he showed me how to use it, all of the staples were gone within a matter of minutes, saving me hours of work and a lot of backache.

It got me thinking about how an enterprising ClickBank publisher could have helped me solve my problem earlier. Every successful ClickBank product solves a problem or addresses a need. In my case, I’m a relatively handy person, but need some specific advice on DIY home remodel techniques that save people money. If someone like my contractor, who has a lot of knowledge and advice to offer people like me, had created an e-book that addressed common remodel techniques that save money, I’d have bought it in a heartbeat. The time, money and effort it would have saved me would have been well worth the cost.

If you’ve always wondered what kind of e-book you could write and sell, think about what kinds of problems and questions you have the answers to that most people don’t. For example, most people don’t have the time or inclination to become a full-fledged contractor, but they’d love to take advantage of all the time- and money-saving tips that contractors have learned over the years.

Chances are good that if you faced a particular problem in the past and figured out how to overcome it, there are many other people who will face the same problem at some point and would gladly pay for the solution! Some of our most successful products address needs like this. Here’s a 2009 DIY project for you: think about your experience and knowledge, write it up in an e-book, and list it with ClickBank. Who knows who else you’ll help?

    Greg,

I love this idea. People get obsessed thinking about niches and all pile into the same few overcrowded ones. A better way to think of niches are by the everyday, small but significant problems that arise which take time and money to solve. If we can get the information to them, people will happily pay for specific solutions.

    Thanks for sharing,

That is a great idea although I am not doing a ebook on removing carpet staples…I am in the process of compiling The Little Brown Book on Infomercial Etiquette for Mean People and Nice People Alike. I look forward to sharing….hopefully in about 90 days. Thanks for the push..SanDra

    Hi Greg,
I couldn’t have put it better. As a relatively new clickbank publisher I have been advocating how to solve problems of various kinds, by taking material from old books in the public domain and republishing it for modern times.

I have decided that instead of dwelling on the same niche’s as everyone else at the very same time, I would show others’ how simple it can be to write or republish a piece of past history for present and future use. I strongly believe there is a need for small but concise books showing people “how to do” almost anything and that there is a great deal of money to be made for producing this information.

Clickbank is in my opinion the ideal marketplace to impart knowledge of any kind, not just “How To” products concerning grossly over mass marketed ebooks, but genuine information that would serve a much needed Niche Market.

Your post has given me a vast amount of even more idea’s that I intend to follow up on in the coming months and years. I hope many other clickbank subscribers follow suit and all prosper as a result.

    Dave Robus.

I have been thinking about your e-book for years and actually wrote a book and sold it online for people building a new home. I included step by step chapters and contracts for each step along the way.I wrote it 14 years ago and since then advertising your product has come a long way.

I just didnt know how and still dont know how to market it. Any advice would be considered.

OK, So what is the simple tool to remove the carpet staples? I have 5 rooms of them to do and I’d like to finish before I die.

    People love self help books:
    - How to get thinner in 30 days
    - How to loose that belly fat in 3 months
    - How to date on the Internet today
    - How to talk to a woman to night
    - 7 steps to marriage
    - 10 secrets to wealth

Those titles spark interest, don’t them…?
Find a need, write a book, sell it.
    Should be easy enough.
Getting people to buy it and don’t get a refund.
    That’s the real challenge.
