Where to Grow

Posted by: Bob Dunlap, Director of Marketing

Every day ClickBank processes sales from hundreds of countries around the globe. I’m sure it’s no surprise that the majority of those sales come from the US and other English-speaking countries. Business from the major English-speaking countries continues to grow rapidly, but is certainly not the only source of opportunity. In fact, many European countries represent large and untapped markets for both product publishers and affiliates.

Here’s some recent data to consider:

For comparison, the US had 190 million unique Internet users in June 2008 and the UK had 35 million.

Not only are these European markets large and growing, many are less saturated from a product and affiliate perspective than their English-speaking counterparts. These markets represent great opportunities to extend your reach, or perhaps even enter a new niche. A perfect example is the Spanish language market, which ClickBank recently enabled. As you can see, the Internet-using population in Spain alone is significant, before even factoring in all of the Latin American countries.

This chart also clearly shows the huge potential of the German- and French-speaking markets. As we add French and German capability later this year, this represents a great opportunity to enter these markets quickly and establish a strong presence for your business. Make sure you don’t miss out on the revenue potential these markets represent for publishers and affiliates who are ready to grow.

Bob, great article, however, I have one question – if someone is really becomes focused on foreign markets – this would most likely required the product to be translated into the appropriate language – correct? Converting to the right language for Adword campaigns is certainly easy enough, however, are we to assume that our product material should take a similar path?

    Hello
I think you may be overlooking Brazil.
    Brazil is nearing population 200,000,000.
Brazil is the country with the second largest computer ownership, and growing.
PIB in Brazil this year is expected to grow to 6.5.

I am a Brazilian born American. I have, obviously, dual citizenship. I lived 30 years in the US.
I have a Post Grad degree in Arts and Literature in English and I speak and write fluently in English.

I am making myself available to ClickBank for whatever it may be planning on this issue.

    Best regards,

    Gerson Borges

I would welcome Clickbank’s presence in the German-speaking market (Germany, Switzerland, and Austria) as I sell both English and German-language publications, but come against resistance getting sales when the banking info is only in English and currency in US dollars. Many Europeans do not identify with the American culture and having all of the technical information necessary for a transaction in the native language of the purchaser would be immensely more profitable.

I fully agree and would like to add all other Portuguese
speaking countries of Africa & Asia. With Portuguese it’s even possible to enter into contact with China via
    Macau!

    Hi guys,

Yes, definitely, Brazil is a place to be.

Brazilians are keen users of technology, growth rates of brazilian internet are extremely high and there’s still huge untaped market.

Whole new classes of users are comming on-line, thousands upon thousands of people every single day.

Broadband internet access is available just about everywhere in Brazil, by most varied means, from ADSL and cable to several nationwide and local high-speed wireless networks. On-line shopping and banking is commonplace in Brazil, there are no cultural barriers whatsoever. Brazilians absolutely love to buy on-line.

The only serious issue that needs to be addressed is the need to do everything in portuguese. Brazilians are not comfortable with english and large part of the population uses the internet on daily basis but in portuguese only.

I’ve been running multi-language helpdesk in Brazil (outsourced english/portuguese helpdesk for brazilian sites) for some 6 years and the on-line business culture has developed very strongly in this period.

If you felt I could be of help, just drop me a line to gregs.helpdesk@gmail.com

    :) Greg

I am just very surprised an e-commerce company like ClickBank is not doing business in Brazil yet.
Is there any local legal regulations prohibiting them of doing this kind of business down here? I don’t think so! Come on! let’s rock this market immediately! There are so many Internet professionals in this country that could join you and start your business in for South Amiercia!

    Thanks

    Armando Melo
